Tudor cookery revealed at Hampton Court Palace

Visitors to a top London attraction will be treated to a feast fit for a king this February and March.

Hampton Court Palace will be the venue for a fascinating series of demonstrations highlighting how royal cuisine was created in the kitchens of King Henry VIII and his successive monarchs over the next two centuries.

As the result of an in-depth research project the Palace can now reveal such recipes as Buknade, a dish of slow-cooked meat such as veal or chicken with sage, hyssop mace and cloves.

Given his legendary appetite it's hardly surprising that Henry VIII had the palace's kitchens extended.

When completed they housed some 55 rooms over 3,000 square feet and employed 200 people serving twice-daily meals (but these weren't just for the King – the entire Royal Court had to be fed as well).

LondonPass holders can gain free general admission to Hampton Court Palace, saving £13.30 for adults and £6.65 for children.
