Queen's Gallery hosts a very special birthday party
Published: Wednesday 19th of November 2008
Heir to the British throne Prince Charles has celebrated his 60th birthday with a gala event at the Queen's Gallery at London's Buckingham Palace.
The Prince, who attends dozens of functions, parties and engagements each year - colloquially known as 'work' - was treated to a reception for some 450 close friends, who quaffed champagne and canapes.
Next the Prince enjoyed a recital by the Philharmonia Orchestra before a low-key comedy performance in his honour, featuring world-famous funnymen Roman Atkinson and Robin Williams.
Finally, the evening ended with a quiet candlelit supper in the Queen's Gallery itself, where the Prince and his family dined casually beneath the room's collection of priceless art.
The Prince's birthday celebrations also included a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park, with yet more gunpowder used in a 62-gun salute later on near the Tower of London.
LondonPass holders can enjoy free entry to the Queen's Gallery, saving £8.50 for adults and £4.25 for children.
