Obama to meet the Queen?

Published: Sunday 8th of March 2009

Newly elected US president Barack Obama looks set to visit the Queen on his visit to the UK next month, sources suggest.

He is expected to be making the royal appointment when he arrives in London for the G20 summit, with the leader believed to be touching down at Stansted Airport on March 31st.

"This will be a brief but striking encounter between an American president who'll have been in power for some 70 days," comments Peter Hunt, the BBC's royal correspondent.

He reveals the Queen has lived through several major events, with the image of the two together likely to be "an iconic one".

President Obama is expected to fly to the UK in Air Force One, before embarking on a short helicopter ride in Marine One to Winfield House, the residence of the American ambassador to London.

Visitors to London can make their way around various royal sites, with the London Pass giving considerable savings on entry to places such as Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle.
