Household Cavalry's royal member to become chopper pilot

Published: Sunday 14th of December 2008

A royal member of the British Army's esteemed Household Cavalry is to return to the theatre of war in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot.

Prince Harry, who is third in line to the British throne, is currently serving in the famous regiment and will retrain with the Army Air Corps before beginning returning to the Middle Eastern country.

Lieutenant Wales, as he is known, is following in the footsteps of his godfather and uncle the Duke of York Prince Andrew, who flew helicopters with the Royal Navy during the Falklands conflict of the 1970s.

The Household Cavalry has a long and proud history within the British Army. The museum which bears its name near Whitehall in central London seeks to commemorate the history and legacy of this important part of the armed forces.

LondonPass holders can gain free entry to the Household Cavalry Museum, saving £6 for adults and £4 for children.
