Another chapter begins in royal residence's history
Published: Thursday 13th of November 2008
A new era in the life of a much-loved royal property began this weekend as investitures were conducted at Windsor Castle for the first time.
At what is said to be her favourite residence, the Queen invested a number of individuals with honours such as MBEs and knighthoods, at the historic castle just a few miles west of London.
Such ceremonies normally take place at Buckingham Palace, which is currently busy preparing for Prince Charles' 60th birthday celebrations.
Among the first group to be awarded the royal honours at the new venue were Rugby World Cup-winning hero Lawrence Dallaglio, who was awarded an OBE.
Windsor Castle has been an important royal property for nearly a millennium and is the largest occupied castle anywhere in the world.
LondonPass holders can enjoy a range of benefits when visiting Windsor Castle. Not only will they receive free admission, saving £14.80 for adults and £8.50 for children, but also free fast track entry and special travel deals with the appropriate pass option.
