Man On Wire at the Curzon Cinemas

Published: Friday 8th of August 2008

The Curzon Cinemas in London are offering film fans another big screen treat this month.

Until August 14th, the cinemas will be showing Man On Wire, a 90-minute docu-film about Phillipe Petit who, in 1974, performed one of the most incredible and daring stunts ever.

Then aged 24, the French high-wire artist endeavoured to walk between the two towers of the World Trade Centre on a thin cable.

Not only did he do so, 1,350 feet above ground, he also performed a series of acrobatic movements while on the cable.

The film (rated 12A) is directed by James Marsh, whose other works include The King and Wisconsin Death Trip.

Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan says the film emphasises "how much a work of art wire-walking is for Petit, who tried unsuccessfully to explain to American reporters that there was no 'why' to what he did."

London Pass holder can receive free entry to the Curzon Cinemas.
