London hotels 'doing well during downturn'

Published: Wednesday 29th of April 2009

Room occupancy in London is still high despite the recession, with low rates helping the success.

Figures from TRI Hospitality Consulting show that out of ten major cities in Europe, London ranked highest in terms of its occupancy for the first three months of this year.

It had an average of 76 per cent occupancy, although its room rates only ranked in fifth place.

"Price promotions and the low value of sterling are stimulating leisure tourism to London which is providing some compensation for the fall in corporate bookings," commented David Bailey, deputy managing director of TRI Hospitality Consulting.

He added that the damage to profits had been seen less in London than a number of other cities.

People heading to London - whether for a short break or a holiday - can make the most of the city with the London Pass.

It gives free entry to a number of London attractions, making the trip more affordable for all the family.
