London 'popular with shoppers'

Published: Monday 23rd of March 2009

European shoppers are turning to the UK to grab themselves a bargain, it is claimed.

According to department store Selfridges, retail addicts are taking advantage of the weak pound and splashing-out on life's luxuries.

"They are taking advantage of the strong euro to make great savings on fabulous things and to enjoy visiting one of the world's most inspiring cities," Selfridges' buying director Anne Pitcher told the BBC.

Brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Chloe are faring particularly well, the store reveals, with its credit card reports showing trade from France soaring 70 per cent this January and February compared to the same period last year.

With the London Pass, overseas shoppers can make the most of their trip to the city by pairing it up with a travel card.

For just £7 extra a day, people can travel all over the capital, taking in as much shopping as they wish.
