Published: Friday 17th of July 2009

London may well see an increase in the number of domestic visitors checking into its hotels, it has been suggested.

As 2009 is believed to be the year of the staycation, claimed this will lead to more people heading to London attractions.

Nigel Pocklington, managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at, said: "The fact that what used to be the most expensive city in Europe is now in the top ten list if you are buying in euros that will help with international visitors and elsewhere."

She added that the poor performance of sterling on the continent will also see an increase in demand from domestic tourists who want to avoid being stung by exchange rates.
