World's largest ship weighs anchor at Tower Bridge

Published: Friday 30th of May 2008

The world's biggest cruise liner has sailed into the River Thames, casting a shadow over many London sightseeing landmarks such as Tower Bridge.

Able to carry nearly 700 passengers and 400 crew members, the gargantuan Azamara Journey has been floating through central London for the past few days, the Daily Mail reports.

Weighing around 30,000 tonnes, the vessel weighed anchor at Tower Bridge.

Azamara Cruises president and chief executive officer was quoted by the newspaper as saying that the ship "was expressly designed for travel enthusiasts who appreciate what a cruise vacation has to offer".

Amenities available onboard include butler service offered in every stateroom and suite, plasma TVs and luxury bedding.

The Azamara Journey was built in 2000 and had its maiden voyage in 2007, aimed at providing access to more unconventional ports.

London Pass holders have the option of enjoying a trip along the Thames with City Cruises, which operates from Westminster, Waterloo, Tower and Greenwich piers.
