Brits 'look to UK for holiday inspiration'

Published: Wednesday 29th of July 2009

More Britons will be heading to London attractions during their summer holidays this year, as the recession hits their bank balances, one tourism body states.

VisitBritain believes the financial difficulties being faced by many Brits will see them take 'staycations' - domestic trips rather than overseas ones.

Research from VisitEngland and Visit London suggests that some five million extra visitors could take to London attractions and others across the country this summer in a bid to rein in their spending.

Figures from Garmin show that London will be the holiday hotspot for British tourists, with a quarter of parents using a trip to London historic buildings and museums to give their children some extra-curricular education.

One in ten will indulge in a sightseeing London bus tour, with London attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Tower of London high on the list of things to see.

Those visiting the capital this summer can use a London Pass to save even more money on their trip.
