Christmas tree lighting in Trafalgar Square
Published: Wednesday 26th of November 2008
Trafalgar Square will be the place to be this Christmas.
The iconic London attraction will officially unveil its impressive Christmas tree and decorations on December 4th.
Every year since 1947, Norway has donated a Christmas tree to the people of London as a sign of appreciation for Britain's role in World War II.
The tree is traditionally displayed in Trafalgar Square and acts as the focal point for a number of the city's festive events.
As well as the lighting of the tree on December 4th, this year will see a series of carol concerts take place between December 8th and 19th.
Professional singing groups will gather round the tree every evening between 17:00 and 21:00 to perform a number of traditional songs.
Visitors are free to just listen, but are encouraged to join in.
Each year the Christmas tree is taken down from Trafalgar Square on Twelfth Night and subsequently recycled.
