Boris underlines commitment to enhancing access to things to do in London
Published: Saturday 26th of June 2010
Mayor of London Boris Johnson made encouraging tourists to visit London attractions his top priority in a recent speech following the opening of a new exhibition centre in the capital.
Mr Johnson was speaking at the official opening of the ExCeL London ICC on June 24th, underlining the importance of the tourism sector for his city.
According to the Khaleej Times, he told delegates: "We want them [tourists] to come to London with their wives and children.
"We want them to stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and leave again – hopefully with their wallets considerably lighter."
His comments came ahead of the launch of a new multimillion pound sports scheme in the capital on June 25th, which will no doubt appeal to tourists visiting some of London's sporting attractions such as the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour or Museum of Rugby.
Under the Playsport London: FreeSport scheme, Londoners are being encouraged to take part in activities throughout the capital.
