Women encouraged to get on their bikes

Published: Saturday 28th of March 2009

Women need to realise there are few barriers preventing them from cycling more often, it is believed.

Vickie Robertson, marketing executive at Sustrans, says there are some common hang-ups, including women's perceptions of how they look while on their bikes.

"From our research that we've done, we know that 42 per cent of women who own a bike only use it less than once a month," she reveals.

Women are able to cycle safely with young children, Ms Robertson claims, which may make it a great activity for families to participate in on a trip to London.

According to Bike Belles, in an article published earlier this month, it is estimated that over her lifetime, the average woman will spend about £150,000 on dieting and fitness.

Women should therefore take advantage of the London Pass when they head to the capital, where the London Bicycle Tour Company can make sure they see the sights while saving £18.95 each.
