What to do in London: How about a Thames River Cruise?
Published: Wednesday 12th of August 2009
Improvements are to be made to the River Thames this year, it has been announced, with 13 locks set to benefit from repairs and improvements.
Those heading off on a Thames River Cruise later in the year may be able to see the changes for themselves, which are set to cost around £5.1 million.
"Reflecting on the works scheduled for this year, I'm sure boaters and other visitors will enjoy the improvements next boating season and for many years to come," commented Paul Power, Environment Agency engineering manager for the River Thames.
Various areas will benefit from the changes, the Environment Agency revealed, including Mapledurham Lock and Abingdon.
The official website for the River Thames states that it is the largest river in England and contains 45 locks and over 25 different species of fish.
It spans over 210 miles and starts in the Cotswolds before flowing into the North Sea.
