What to do in London: Avoid congestion by cycling

Published: Monday 21st of September 2009

Making the most of a visit to the capital can not only mean saving money on London attractions with a London Pass, but getting round the city in the best possible way.

Transport user organisation London TravelWatch is calling for more people to get on their bikes and cycle round the capital, whether that be for business or pleasure.

Increasing cycling will help ease congestion, a spokeswoman for the body says, and all road users must share the city's transport network.

Training and education are a vital part of achieving this goal, she continues.

Earlier this month, the Department for Transport announced that cyclists will be allowed to ride in both directions on certain one-way streets, as part of measures to encourage more eco-friendly travel around the capital.

The pilot scheme is taking place in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in the hope that it can eventually be rolled out across the country.
