Visit London attractions and enjoy improvements to the London Underground
Published: Friday 4th of December 2009
The newly extended King's Cross St Pancras tube station is up and running, making it easier for visitors to access the underground train network and to get to London attractions more quickly.
Some 300,000 passengers use the King's Cross St. Pancras' stations each day and they are now benefitting from the new state-of-the-art Northern line ticket hall's increased number of ticket office windows and ticket machines.
Transport secretary Andrew Adonis said: "King's Cross St Pancras is a national and international gateway for millions of Londoners and visitors every year."
The new 2,000 sq m hall is the station's third ticket hall and has ten new escalators and around 300m of new tunnels connecting the hall with the platforms for the Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria line platforms.
The Monument to the Great Fire of London, which destroyed large parts of the city in 1666, is 202ft tall and has 311 steps inside, allowing visitors to climb to a viewing platform.
