Transport between London attractions soon to be greener
Published: Tuesday 15th of December 2009
Those travelling between London attractions will be able to do so in an environmentally-friendly vehicle by 2015, according to the Mayor of London.
Boris Johnson announced today at the Copenhagen climate summit that, in five years time, no one in London - including both residents and visitors - will be further than a mile from an electric vehicle charge point.
Mr Johnson said: "A golden era of clean, green electric motoring is upon us and London is well ahead of cities around the globe in preparing the right conditions for this.
"I want to pursue radical yet practical steps to cut energy waste."
He said that electric vehicles are a "clear example" of how technology can help to tackle the "biggest challenge of our generation".
The mayor plans to have 500 charge points installed on the streets of London, 2,000 in public car parks and 22,500 at workplaces.
Earlier this month the newly improved King's Cross St Pancras tube station opened. It has a larger ticket hall with a greater number of ticket office windows and machines, making getting around the city quicker and easier for those visiting London attractions.
