Things to do in London: Travel between attractions with Barclays-sponsored cycle hire scheme
Published: Tuesday 1st of June 2010
The London Cycle Hire scheme, which will enable tourists to get between London attractions in an environmentally-friendly way, has received another boost.
Barclays will sponsor the Cycle Superhighway network and the upcoming roadshow tour of the capital.
Thousands of hire bikes will be made available across hundreds of locations across the capital, enabling visitors to visit the likes of St Paul's Cathedral and the London Motor Museum.
Due to launch on Friday July 30th, the scheme's sponsorship deal will provide £25 million in funding over five years.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said that the agreement will help the capital deliver the "cleanest, greenest and healthiest" public transport the city has seen.
He added: "Barclays Cycle Hire, alongside Barclays Cycle Superhighways, will mark 2010 in the history books of our great city as the year that we put the measures in place to create a cycling revolution in London."
The announcement comes after Mr Johnson unveiled the final design for the new Routemaster hybrid bus, which is also expected to reduce the environmental impact of the capital's public transport.
