Take a walk around Georgian Bloomsbury with the Foundling Museum
Published: Thursday 14th of August 2008
Visitors to London can enjoy a fascinating insight into Georgian Bloomsbury courtesy of the Foundling Museum this August.
Ian Bevan, a historian and a City of London guide will take tourists on a special guided walk, which will be taking place on Sunday August 24th - and walkers are advised to book at the Foundling Museum in advance in order to secure their place on the walk.
Eighteenth century Bloomsbury was one of the top London attractions widely held to be a fashionable residential district.
Situated close to the estate of the Duke of Bedford, walkers can visit the Georgian squares and public buildings.
However, visitors will also learn about the darker side of life in Georgian Bloomsbury, such as the poverty and the problem of abandoned babies.
Later on, Thomas Coram established the Foundling Hospital in order to resolve this problem.
