Rail works that will improve access to London attractions near completion
Published: Wednesday 6th of January 2010
Access to London attractions will soon be improved as works on the London Overground are nearing completion.
A new London Overground East London line has been created and, when completed, will link communities across the capital.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson visited Shoreditch High Street yesterday (January 6th) to see the last phase of works on the line.
The line is to be served by 12 new state-of-the-art trains every hour when it is complete.
Mr Johnson said: "The project will mean shorter and more enjoyable journeys, less congestion, and will support regeneration up and down the line. It demonstrates clearly why investment in our transport network is so important."
He went on to say that, by next year, the East London Line will be connected to the wider London Overground network at Camden Road and, in 2012, it will link Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction.
A £326 million upgrade of Transport for London's Overground network to provide reliable connections to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Park is also underway.
