London cab rides 'a great experience'
Published: Monday 23rd of February 2009
Taking a cab to get round London is an enjoyable experience, one writer recently found.
Comparing the experience to that in a New York yellow taxi, Toby Young tells This is London the experience is far superior.
"London taxi drivers are not the flotsam and jetsam spat out by a teeming metropolis, they're ambassadors for the city," he writes.
He describes London as the New York of the 21st century, saying how excellent the cabbies' knowledge of the city's streets is, with getting from A to B much easier than it is across the pond.
Earlier this month, Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police Service announced a clampdown on illegal cabs in London, which it hopes will make travelling the streets of the capital even safer.
Those who want to explore for themselves can also take advantage of a London Travel Card, which is available with the LondonPass for a cost of £7 per day.
