London bicycle hire scheme set to make it easier to travel to London attractions

Published: Friday 25th of June 2010

The prospects look bright for tourists visiting London attractions keen to take advantage of the new Barclays Cycle Hire scheme.

Residents in the capital are already impressed with preparations for the scheme, which is not set to be launched until July.

Speaking to the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle, actor Michael Rosta said: "It looks stylish and I think I would use it.

"I've been thinking of riding a bike to work because I spend so much money on transport."

The bike is likely to be the perfect, low cost way of getting between different attractions, such as the National Theatre Backstage Tours and the Cartoon Museum.

Transport for London (TfL) has indicated that the first 30 minutes of any journey will be free, with charges imposed for any subsequent usage based on duration.

Borrowing a bike and returning it within one hour nets a £1 charge, while a bike can be borrowed for six hours at a cost of £35.

However, TfL advises those keen on taking longer journeys that it may be cheaper to seek a specialist bicycle hire company, such as the London Bicycle Tour Company.
