Save on London attractions with Lord's cricket tour

Published: Thursday 18th of February 2010

One of the biggest London attractions for sports fans is the Lord's cricket ground tour, which "brings the fascinating story of cricket to life".

A dedicated guide is on hand to show each tour group around what is one of the most famous sporting venues in the world.

Paintings, photographs and other artefacts cover an amazing 400 years of cricket history in the museum, charting the game's development from a quaint rural pastime to the modern, international sport it is today.

Guests on the Lord's tour get the chance to walk through the heart of the pavilion to the prestigious Long Room, which houses portraits of many of the sport's best-loved characters, including WG Grace.

"Almost any famous cricketer you can think of has made that long walk at least once in their career," enthuses the Lord's cricket ground tour website.

Lord's cricket ground was moved to its present site in 1814, while a new pavilion was built in 1825 after the original was destroyed in a fire.
