Save on London Attractions: HMS Belfast hosts Korean War commemoration

Published: Sunday 28th of February 2010

HMS Belfast will host a commemoration of the Korean War, at the end of May and beginning of June.

The ship's commemorative week is one of the London attractions hoping to attract visitors during the May half-term holidays.

Families in London sightseeing between May 31st and June 6th will be able hop on board and see demonstrations of life at sea during the conflict.

The event hopes to offer four-inch gun, damage control exercise and captain's defaulters demonstrations and Naval Wargames Society activities.

Commemoration will also offer visitors the chance to watch archive film of the war and dress up in naval uniforms.

Earlier this month it was reported that HMS Belfast was in need of repair and had already received £250,000 from Russian businesses. The ship's repairs began three years ago but were put on hold because of the economic downturn, reported the Evening Standard.

Events to mark the Korean War will continue onboard the boat in July with a week of talks from veterans who served on board the ship during the conflict.
