A date with Darwin at London Zoo
Published: Sunday 1st of February 2009
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, the British scientist who came up with the Theory of Evolution, and one of the top London attractions is doing something a bit special to celebrate it.
London Zoo has a number of links with Darwin, as he was a corresponding fellow to the Zoological Society of London while on his journey on HMS Beagle.
It was during this time that he formed his ideas about natural selection, which he later wrote down in The Origin of Species.
From February 14th to 22nd, a Darwin actor will be on hand at the zoo to take visitors around and explain many of the intricacies of the scientist's theories.
Additionally, a Darwin trail will be set up to allow visitors to have fun testing the theories, including the chance to make a monkey of oneself in the Gorilla Kingdom.
London Pass holders can get into London Zoo for free.
