Tower of London attraction 'tops site seeing charts'

New data released by VisitEngland revealed that London attractions topped the list of most popular sightseeing destinations in terms of visitor numbers, proving the capital is still a major draw for tourists, despite the economic downturn.
St Paul's Cathedral was second on the list, having had more than 1.8 million visitors last year, while Westminster Abbey welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors through its gates.
Commenting on the figures, VisitEngland chief executive James Berresford explained that the UK is still proving itself an inspiration to tourists.
He added: "Our attractions are world class, whether you're looking for a zoo, a historical gem, a theme park or one of our beautiful gardens.
"Wherever we live in the country, we are never far away from some amazing attractions offering a great day out for the whole family."
Tourists can even access some London attractions in the evening. Earlier this month, the Tate Britain announced that it will be keeping its doors open to some of its best exhibitions until 21:00 BST.
