Save on Sightseeing in London: London Eye celebrates 10 years of turning
Published: Friday 12th of March 2010
Favourite London attraction the London Eye celebrated its ten-year anniversary earlier this week.
Other much-enjoyed sites include the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben clock, while keen-eyed tourists can even catch a glimpse of Wembley Stadium to the north of the capital's urban sprawl.
Over 36 million visitors have been for a ride on the 135-metre wheel, which has hosted birthdays, weddings and engagement parties during its spell as a premier millennium London attraction.
The wheel has also shown itself to be resilient to protests and setbacks during its construction, which resulted in the first public opening being delayed until March 2000.
It was officially opened by the then prime minister Tony Blair on December 31st 1999.
During its decade-long existence, it has handed over its mantel as the world's tallest ferris wheel to the newly-built Singapore Flyer, which towers over the London attraction by an impressive 30 metres.
