Things to see in London: Chinese New Year celebrations

Published: Tuesday 26th of January 2010

People visiting England next month may wish to join in or just sit back and watch the Chinese New Year celebrations in between a busy day of visiting top London attractions.

Chinese New Year celebrations are to take place on Sunday February 21st and areas of central London, including Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and London Chinatown, are to be transformed.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "I am delighted to give my backing to London's Chinese New Year celebrations."

"Not only is it the largest outside Asia, it is undoubtedly one of the brightest, most colourful events to be seen in the capital," he added.

Those that are out London sightseeing will be able to witness Chinese arts and entertainment, food and fireworks.

Chinese acrobats will take to Trafalgar Square, as will dancers and dragons. Trafalgar Square is close to many London attractions including the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms and many London galleries.
