Save on sightseeing in London and witness the Great Gorilla Run

Published: Friday 25th of September 2009

This year's Great Gorilla Run takes place tomorrow (Saturday, September 26th) and the route passes many London attractions.

A thousand people dressed as gorillas will take to the streets of London to raise money for endangered mountain gorillas in the event, set up by the Gorilla Organisation in 2003.

The race begins at 9.30am and spectators can line the seven kilometre route which passes London sights such as Tower Bridge.

Last year Bill Oddie called the event the "most fun event for conservation going on anywhere in the world".

There is an £80 registration fee (£50 for those that took part last year) for this year's run which includes a gorilla suit and each participant has to raise a minimum of £400 in sponsorship.

London Zoo is involved in conservation of the mountain gorilla though a project which supports the Congolese Wildlife Authority in the management of the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo where over half of the remaining mountain gorilla population in the world is found.
