Had your fill of man-made London attractions? Visit Chislehurst Caves

Published: Thursday 14th of January 2010

People who have had a busy day of London sightseeing but fancy visiting a natural attraction should consider a trip to the Chislehurst Caves.

Visitors to the caves will be taken underground on a lamp-lit guided tour and will hear tales of druids, Romans and Saxons.

They will also be able to see the tunnels that were used in the second world war as a shelter - the largest air raid shelter outside of London.

There is a restaurant and gift shop at the caves so visitors can buy trinkets and collectables to remind them of their visit.

The caves can be reached by road, rail and bus. Chislehurst Station can be reached from both Charing Cross and London Bridge stations in the centre of the city.

Large groups can book private evening tours of the caves, so they can enjoy visiting city-centre London attractions, such as Kew Gardens and Wellington Arch by day and visit the caves by night.
