What to see in London - new exhibition at Churchill Museum

Published: Tuesday 18th of August 2009

A new exhibition is set to open at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms later this month.

Undercover: Life in Churchill's Bunker, opens on August 27th, the 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War.

It explores what life was like during the war for those who worked with Churchill underground and in secret.

The Cabinet War Rooms were originally used as storage areas but later converted to rooms and offices where the prime minister and 500 key members of the government and armed forces worked for six years.

Objects on display include a previously unseen letter registering Churchill's complaint about the War Rooms not being bombproof, a sun lamp and a silent typewriter, designed because of the prime minister's hatred of the noise regular ones made.

The exhibition will remain open for a year, giving visitors to the Churchill Museum plenty of opportunities enjoy the experience.
