Published: Thursday 27th of May 2010

Volunteers at two major London attractions are celebrating after being recognised in the 2010 London Volunteers in Museums Awards.

According to I-Volunteer.org.uk, Suzi Fuller was given the Bringing Innovation prize at the event organised by Renaissance London for her efforts as a learning and access support volunteer at the Churchill War Rooms.

Peggy Contento, an 18-year-old volunteer at Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum, was also given the Special Youth Award for creating a new database linked to the site's collection of medals.

She told the website that volunteering had been really enjoyable and discussed the benefits that spending so much time in the museum have given her.

"I'm doing history A-level and volunteering here actually helps with that because I learn things teachers could never teach me," she outlined.

Details of the awards have come after Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum confirmed that its current exhibition in collaboration with the Fan Museum is running until June 26th.

Fans, War and Peace showcases a range of historic fans with a military theme.
