Visiting the Foundling Museum is one of the things to do in London
Published: Sunday 10th of June 2012
The museum acts a space that tells the rich story of the Foundling Hospital, which is considered Britain's first home for abandoned children.
Now showing at the museum is Dickens and the Foundling, which explores the relationship between Charles Dickens – considered one of the most influential writers ever – and the hospital.
It takes on a celebrity feel with news presenter John Snow, actress Gillian Anderson and comedy writer Armando Iannucci handpicking objects from the Charles Dickens Museum to be displayed at Foundling.
Anderson has picked a letter Dickens sent to the editor of the Times objecting to public hangings, while Snow selected a writing desk the famous author used to pen his last, unfinished work.
For two years, Dickens lived close to the hospital, and came to champion its cause both financially and through his writing.
Another new show that visitors to London might be interested in is Stories from the World: Personas through Pictures.
