Things to do in London: Last chance to catch London Transport Museum exhibition

Published: Thursday 22nd of April 2010

Everyone hates that feeling when they are running to catch a bus and it slowly pulls away into the distance: which is why visitors to London should head down to the London Transport Museum in the coming days to avoid that sinking feeling.

That's because the London Transport Museum's popular Suburbia exhibition is set to tootle off into the horizon for the last time when it closes on April 30th, meaning that the museum should be high up the list of must-see attractions for visitors to the capital in the next week.

The unique exhibition looks at how public transport played its part in shaping the identity of suburbia in London and beyond over the past century.

Exhibits reveal how Underground stations got their names, while others explore defining influences for suburbanites such as fashion and film.

As the official London Transport Museum's website explains, the Suburbia exhibition is "mixing fun, fact and a little bit of fantasy to rejoice in a place that we collectively continue to love and hate".

The next major exhibition to come to the London Transport Museum from May 29th will be entitled Overground Uncovered, looking at life along the London Overground line.
