Things to do in London: Florence Nightingale Museum
Published: Wednesday 16th of November 2011
Visitors on January 19th 2012 will be able to explore the famous nurse's life through the Against Images Made By Hands: Florence Nightingale's Reluctant Life in Portraiture event.
Florence famously disliked having her portrait taken but rose to the forefront of the popular consciousness through this form.
"Used as a model by her artistic and adoring sister and cousin, sketches of the young Nightingale contrast sharply with the photographs and paintings of her later years," the museum claimed.
Curator Natasha McEnroe will guide visitors through Nightingale's life, the images made of her and what these can tell people about the time in which she lived.
Those looking for London attractions this winter could consider visiting the St Thomas' Hospital Chapel on the evening of December 14th 2011, where a fund-raising evening for the Florence Nightingale Museum will be taking place including choral music, mulled wine and mince pies.
