New book celebrates regional heritage of international Scottish hero
Published: Friday 2nd of January 2009
Alexander Fleming, pioneer of the vital use of penicillin in modern medicine, is among a number of 'local heroes' celebrated in a new book on Scottish history.
The light-hearted tome, entitled Caledonication, takes a look at important figures in world history who hailed from the country, including the revered scientist.
Other key information in this informative book includes the holding of the first Open golf championship back in the middle of the 19th century and some famous inventors and business leaders from north of the border.
Written by John K V Eunson, Caledonication is available now.
London's Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum gives a fascinating insight into the man himself and his work in pioneering the use of bacteria which became a pivotal part of modern clinical medicine.
Visitors can use their LondonPass to obtain free entry to this fantastic attraction in the capital's St Mary's Hospital, saving £2 for adults and £1 for children.
