New Florence Nightingale Museum added to tourists' London attractions list
Published: Friday 30th of April 2010
Three different layers will tell a number of stories about Florence's life, from her ideas and thoughts to her historical context.
A new entrance, shop and exhibition space have been included in the designs by architect Kossmann de Jong.
Ahead of the re-opening, experts from the museum have been delivering special lessons usually provided at the London attraction.
Nightingale famously cared for thousands of soldiers in the Crimean war, but was also active in reforming health practices.
She died in 1910 at the age of 90, with the museum stocking over 2,000 artefacts relating to her life and work, during which she established herself as one of the most influential women of the 19th century.
Florence also published over 200 books, helping to establish nursing as a respectable profession for women.
