Museum of London Docklands helps celebrate centenary
Published: Tuesday 24th of February 2009
London is set to celebrate 100 years of its port history through an exhibition over the coming weeks.
Set to take place between March 30th and April 19th, the exhibition is a joint venture between the Port of London Authority (PLA) and the Museum of London Docklands.
"For the last 100 years the PLA has battled through two world wars and a revolution in shipping to ensure the river remains an economic powerhouse for the people of London," comments PLA chief executive Richard Everitt.
He adds that the display will document the area's 100-year history, including tales of its people and the way the river has evolved over the years.
Among the other highlights is a dedicated display case showing archive material on the PLA's involvement in Polar expeditions during the early 1990s.
Holders of the London Pass can gain free entry to the Museum of London Docklands, saving themselves £5 on the price of an adult ticket.
