Make LandFall at Museum of London Docklands

Published: Thursday 22nd of January 2009

The Atlantic Ocean is the subject of a new exhibition opening at the Museum of London Docklands on February 6th.

LandFall looks at the ocean from a variety of perspectives: both as a force of nature and its use by human beings.

A wide variety of exhibits will be on show, including poetry, sculptures and paintings, all highlighting and attempting to understand the complicated associations between the continents of Europe, Africa and the Americas, through the prism of the ocean.

Some of the artists who have contributed work include Godfried Donkor, Dorothea Smartt and Beth Secor.

Ingrid Pollard, curator and contributing artist, explained: "The artists contributing to LandFall are from the various coastal stopping points of the Atlantic Gulf Stream.

"The histories which ride its currents are central to our work, which has at its basis the natural phenomena of winds, sea and the stories of transportation."

This east London museum is the perfect setting for the exhibition, as it is located in the Docklands area of the city, where ships sailing from the Atlantic once docked.

LandFall runs until May 31st.

London Pass holders can gain admission to the Museum of London Docklands for free.
