London attractions: Wimbledon Tennis Museum
Published: Sunday 1st of July 2012
With the tennis season's favourite championship in full swing, visitors looking for things to do in London will have brilliant time at the Wimbledon Tennis Museum.
Sports fans will be in tennis heaven when they visit this fantastic space, especially seeing as it has a special exhibition at the moment.
One particular highlight of the show, which is entitled Tennis at the Olympics, is the stories it tells of John Boland, who was the first Olympic tennis champion. It's a hoot too.
"On mounting the platform, King George I of Greece shook me by the hand, and said in English: 'I congratulate you'," Boland famously recalled.
"He handed me two diplomas, two medals and two olive wreaths. So full were my hands that I forgot to descend the steps backwards. I made up for the omission by bowing when I go to the bottom."
Other Olympic treats include a display of gold medals as won by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have shown how it is done at the world's greatest sporting event.
The museum is a really immersive experience where visitors can enjoy the history of Wimbledon through engaging touchscreen consoles.
