London attractions: Classical music fans must see the Handel House Museum
Published: Thursday 27th of October 2011
Number 25 Brook Street was home to world-renowned baroque composer George Frideric Handel from 1723 until his death in 1759.
It was at this address that Handel composed some of his most celebrated works, including Messiah, Zadok the Priest and Music for the Royal Fireworks.
The museum explores the great composer's life and works, showcasing portraits of Handel and his contemporaries within the restored Georgian interiors of the building.
Live music has been returned to the historic house, with frequent music rehearsals, weekly concerts and special music events taking place.
The current exhibition at the museum is The Music Party: Paintings and Drawings by Macellus Laroon, which is running until November 27th.
This is the first London exhibitions of Laroon's paintings for more than 40 years, giving viewers a unique look into domestic music making in Georgian England.
