London attractions 'becoming more popular'
Published: Thursday 11th of June 2009
London attractions are becoming more popular, according to the latest visitor figures.
Statistics from Visit London show that the number of people visiting London museums, galleries and other attractions increased by almost a fifth in April.
Overall, some 3.6 million people enjoyed the experience of the capital's attractions during the month.
The boost in figures has been attributed to warm weather, an increase in visitors from the EU taking advantage of the exchange rate and the Easter holidays.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said the figures demonstrate that the appeal of London attractions remains strong despite the economic downturn.
"The city offers an unrivalled range of things to do and see, much of which offers great value for the visitor and we will do our utmost to ensure London maintains its position as a must-see destination," he added.
Last month, the Only in London campaign was launched to highlight the unique attractions on offer in the capital, such as Tower Bridge and the Cabinet War Rooms.
Visitors to London can save money during their visit with a London Pass, giving them free entry to a whole host of attractions, museums and historic buildings.
