Get a Handle on Handel
Published: Saturday 24th of January 2009
The composer George Frideric Handel is to be the subject of an exhibition which will take place in the most apt surroundings possible - his London home.
From April 8th, visitors to the Handel House Museum will be able to see important items from Handel's life in Handel Reveal'd, including a life mask of the composer.
While many of these will come from the London museum's own archive, the exhibition - marking the 250th anniversary of Handel's death - will also feature loans from private collections and national museums.
Handel House Museum is a treat for fans of the composer, as it is where he wrote some of his most famed pieces, including Messiah.
It is also the site of his death and visitors can see his bedroom, from which he uttered his famous phrase that he no longer wanted to see guests because he was "done with the world".
The exhibition's curator, Handel biographer Christopher Hogwood, said: "This major anniversary gives us the opportunity of presenting 'Handel the man', something which is rarely done."
London Pass holders can avoid the usual entry fee of £5 for adults and £2 for children for the Handel House Museum's general admission.
