Free entry to 55+ London attractions as capital links up with NYC

Published: Wednesday 16th of September 2009

The mayor of London has come to an arrangement with his New York counterpart which is aimed at seeing travel increased between the two cities.

Among the plans is that each city will assist the other when promoting events, which may include those at top London attractions.

"London and New York City share many similarities, including a strong sense of optimism and determination, along with a great appreciation for diversity and innovation," Mr Johnson commented.

He noted that their "common cultural ties" would also make the project a success - a sentiment echoed by Mayor Bloomberg.

VisitBritain recently revealed that the number of people visiting the UK in June was up five per cent compared with the same period last year and spending was eight per cent higher than last year in nominal terms.

The year-to-date picture is that nine per cent fewer overseas visitors came to the UK in the first six months of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008.
