Free Entry & Fast Track to 55+ at London attractions: Funding sought for HMS Belfast maintenance

Published: Wednesday 24th of February 2010

Efforts are underway to secure funding for one of the UK's most famous London attractions, HMS Belfast, from Russian businesses and officials.

The Second World War vessel is in need of repairs, with managers of the floating museum keen to secure funding from Russia, which the ship kept supplied with essentials during the fight against the Germans in the 1940s.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, director of the HMS Belfast Brad King said: "We are part of Russia's history and the ship has touched a lot of lives.

"We have been working out ways of getting companies to support us. The Russian embassy has swung behind it to help it along."

HMS Belfast remains a popular tourist attraction, hosting a number of special exciting educational events for children and adults.

In March and April, the annual Hunt the Rat event takes place, which serves as a nautical alternative to the traditional Easter egg hunt.
