Explore shipbuilding at HMS Belfast
Published: Monday 19th of January 2009
The UK has produced some of the finest ships ever to sail the seven seas and fans of the art can find out all about it onboard one of the best the country has produced - HMS Belfast.
Sitting in the Thames, the decommissioned navy boat - which saw action during World War II and the Korean War - is now a floating museum in the Thames and a huge London attraction.
Now a nautical but nice exhibition aims to shed light on how the UK has produced sea-going vessels, from sailing ships to the mighty warships we can see today.
Visitors to 'Launch! Shipbuilding Through the Ages' will be able to use the most up-to-date computer technology to look at shipbuilding techniques through the ages.
There will also be a sociological slant, with information on how the industry came to define communities and change engineering methods.
The shipbuilding exhibition begins on January 29th and runs until December 31st 2010.
Visitors to HMS Belfast can gain free admission with their LondonPass, saving £10.30 for adults.
