WWI photos show what to see in London
Published: Monday 10th of August 2009
A series of aerial photographs taken in 1917 have been released, showing what there was to see in London during the war years.
The First World War pictures depict a range of top attractions including the Tower of London and Crystal Palace, which was burned down in 1917.
They are now in the possession of Alan Richardson, a retired RAF pilot, who believes they were compiled by his grandfather Albert Richardson.
"When I began thinking about the historical significance of them I began to do some research, but could not find any pictures of London before 1917," he revealed.
Mr Richardson also noted how detailed the pictures are and claimed not to know where his grandfather acquired them.
