Visit a top London attraction this winter: Tower Ice Rink
Published: Monday 23rd of November 2009
After a visit to the Tower of London, nip outside and enjoy an afternoon of ice skating on the tower's ice rink.
The Tower Ice Rink, set in the 1,000-year-old dry moat, opened at the weekend and runs until January 10th.
For those that find the winter elements too much to bare there are a number of fascinating exhibitions within the tower to enjoy.
The tower was a state prison and a place of execution and, for almost 900 years, criminals, traitors, kings and queens were all incarcerated within its walls.
An exhibition called Meet the Prisoners tells the stories of those locked in the tower, why they were there and whether they ever left alive.
One of those featured is Guy Fawkes, who attempted to blow up parliament and King James in the 1605 Gunpowder Plot.
The plot failed and Guy Fawkes was captured and died a horrible death - being hanged, drawn and quartered in the tower.
