Tower Bridge offers engineering fans things to do in London
Published: Wednesday 10th of November 2010
Engineering enthusiasts are being offered a special behind the scenes tour of the bridge, including the Bascule Chambers, Bridge Control Room and the Machinery Room.
One lucky visitor, drawn from a list of everyone who goes on the tour, will even be offered an opportunity to raise the bridge.
Tours will be given to a maximum of 12 people and will explain the history and construction of the impressive 42-metre high walkway suspended above the Thames.
Visitors will also meet a senior bridge technical officer, who will take the tourists to normally off-limits parts of the bridge.
Engineering tours must be booked in advance at www.towerbridge.org.uk and cost an additional £30 per person.”
Tourists visiting the construction can also take advantage of the full-colour Great Bridges of the World Tower Bridge Exhibition.
Exhibited bridges span centuries and include the Roman Pont du Gard aqueduct in Nimes.
